“Junk to Funk” All-Ages art show at Saranac Lake Free Library, June 2023

Information from Emma Galeotti about the June 2023 Homeschool Art Show at Saranac Lake Free Library – start making your pieces now!

Theme: “Junk to Funk”

The Saranac Lake Free Library is inviting our local homeschoolers to create art pieces for a special “Junk to Funk” art show where every piece will be made of repurposed materials (stuff that would normally be considered garbage or recycling).

Our goal is to bring attention to the waste we create as individuals hoping it will help change our outlook and attitude toward Junk!

June is also Paddle Month in Saranac Lake, so any creation linked to water and watersports is encouraged!

DEADLINE: All pieces must be brought to the library by Thursday, June 1st, 2023.

Tentative dates for “Junk to Funk 2023” to be on display: June 5th to July 8th, 2023.

Set-up: Saturday, June 03, 2023.

Break Down: July 10 -11, 2023

Your library appreciates very much the patronage of our home schooling families and we want to do a homeschool art show each year, as we did before the pandemic!

Please let us know how we could be of help and/or assist you!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions or comments!

Lake Placid Public Library Homeschool Programs

Dear Homeschool Families,

Welcome to the start of a new school year! We are here to support you on your education journey and will continue with our first and last Thursday of the month programming. Programs are geared for children in grades K – 6, but other ages are welcome. Our first event this year will be Flying Fun on Thursday, September 29th (10:00 a.m.) at which we’ll explore principles of flight, engineering, and innovation with a read-aloud, discussion, and some seriously fun hands-on activities. We’ll follow up with drop-in hours from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. every first Thursday, with subject-area stations, hands-on activities, and assistance with book selection, research materials, etc.

Please note that on Thursday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. we will host Emily Kasennisaks Cecilia Stacey, a member of the Mohawk Tribe of the Six Nations, for a Giving Thanks Storytime. This event was made possible thanks to a Lake Placid Education Foundation grant from the Adirondack Foundation.

We hope to see you at many Homeschool Thursdays this year. If you know of any families that wish to join, please have them email librarian@lakeplacidlibrary.org to be added to our list. Please note, free parking is available in the St. Eustace Church lot, just leave a note on your dashboard indicating you are at this library event. As always, happy reading!
