Exciting and free opportunity to do community science all winter long with The Wild Center, NASA, and Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. Register here: https://wildcenter.ticketapp.org/portal/product/74
Do you love snow and want to make a real impact on climate research right here in the Adirondacks? We’d love to invite you and your organization to join us for a free, hands-on X-Snow training workshop on Saturday, January 10th from 1:00–4:00 pm at The Wild Center.
This workshop is part of our ongoing effort to support impactful scientific collaboration by connecting Adirondack community members with the NASA-funded X-Snow citizen science initiative. Snow in the Northeast is surprisingly understudied, and local observations play a critical role in improving climate models, validating satellite data, and understanding how our snowy landscapes may change in the future.
X-Snow invites people of all ages and experience levels to participate. Whether you’re interested in taking simple snow depth measurements in your backyard or learning how to analyze snowflakes and snow water content, there’s a way for everyone to get involved. During the workshop, participants will:
- Meet the X-Snow research team from Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University
- Learn why snow data in the Adirondacks is so important
- Get trained on easy-to-use snow data collection protocols
- Connect with other snow lovers and community members
By contributing observations through X-Snow’s online platform, citizen scientists help advance real-world research that supports climate science, environmental stewardship, and public science literacy.
We hope you’ll join us—or help spread the word to your networks—to make this winter both fun and meaningful. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and we’d be happy to share more details.
