Camp Cherokee Homeschool Camp

It’s that time of year again….

Homeschool Camp 2022

Dates: August 21st – 26th, 2022. (Sunday, August 21st (dinner time) through Friday, August 26th (morning)

Location: Camp Cherokee (Lake Saranac: 433 Gilpin Bay)

Cost: For the week will be $535/family (not person) plus a meal for everyone including staff and being a helper at an additional meal (or two). If you are new – I’d be delighted to help you with this and you will have a helper family that knows the kitchen working with your family. Foster children count as your family. Additional adult (often grandparent) costs $146 for the week.

Deposit: I am collecting a $100 deposit which is non-refundable to help the camp know the number of families that will be attending so they can determine the required staff. You may mail me your deposit: Tammy Neureuther 11 Carriagehouse Lane, West Chazy, NY 12992.

Interested or Questions: Contact Tammy Neureuther (home 518-563-7036 or cel 518-569-3327 or email tamneureuther@yahoo.com). We’d love to have you join the fun:)

This has been my children’s favorite week of the year for the last 10+ years!

Extra details:

Sunday night’s pot luck dinner, on your own or we order pizza (everyone splits the cost); three years ago, we had enough families and someone supplied Sunday’s meal. In addition, your family will be a helper at another meal. Depending on the number of families, I may ask everyone to contribute something towards a breakfast (box of cereal or gallon of milk) and help cleaning up for one extra meal. In the past, people have been incredibly helpful so clean-up is pretty easy with all the hands at work. As the number of teenagers/young adults increase, I will be asking them to help a little extra this year!

Activities (all included in the cost):

Pool with lifeguard – diving board, slide, and water toys

Horseback riding

Archery or Knife throwing

Ping Pong

Field – great for baseball, soccer, capture the flag, etc.

Small Sand Pit (little children liked it there!)

Volleyball/Sand area

Pavilion – pickle ball, tether ball, basketball, foosball, and more

Playground area

Motorboats with almost everything imaginable behind them (staff drives the boats and will teach you have to water ski, knee board, tube etc)

Pontoon boat – love the rides to star watch at night

Boat Area – includes kayaks, canoes, paddle boats (this is open all day but we need an adult on land and everyone needs to sign the boats out)

Chapel time – lots of singing and time making beautiful memories

Other things you may want to know —

· The kitchen is vegetarian; hence no meat – milk, eggs & dairy are fine.

· You bring your own bedding, towels, etc. (beds and bunks are provide). I’ll let you know what beds/bunks you will have in your room before you go.

· Every family supplies a meal – so food is mostly covered. You can put the food you bring in the main kitchen where there is a walk-in fridge and area to store food. (You may also want to bring extra snacks for your family in a plastic container if you store where you sleep or you can store anything you want in the kitchen – please label for food if you do not want anyone else using it)

· Due to allergies, we have only allowed peanut butter in the kitchen and asked that an adult makes the sandwich, then they watch the child while they eat it. Afterwards, please wash everyone’s hands. If you have other allergy concerns, or this policy is not acceptable, please notify me and we will work together to insure everyone is safe!

· You may want to bring stuff for s’mores – they are a hit on nights we have a campfire!

· Bring your favorite board game – kids love to play games together on rainy days or in the evening.

· If you would like to organize a “class” or “meeting”, just let me know and we will add it to our schedule. In the past we have had photography, cake decorating, men prayer time, and homeschool sharing time to give you an idea. The last few years, we have been small and not done the extra classes.

· We often have talent night which is a great time – it’s optional; but fun to plan something for!

Feel free to contact me with questions. You can email me at tamneureuther@yahoo.com or call me at (h)518-563-7036 or (c) 518-569-3327. My daughter (and possibly a college son or two) are looking forward to an amazing time with their friends, both new and old, and I’m looking forward to the peace and friendship I enjoy each year.

Final Homeschool Program of the School Year at Lake Placid Public Library 6/2/2022

From the Lake Placid Library: Our final Homeschool Drop-In session for the school year is this Thursday, June 2nd, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. As usual, we’ll have subject-area stations with books and hands-on activities. For those of you who missed last Thursday’s birding program with Nature Nate from the Adirondack Mountain Club, we saved some hand-outs and activities. Although this is our last session of the school year, the library is planning a summer full of events and take-away activities. We’ll send that schedule out shortly, so stay tuned.

Thank you for you participating in this year’s program. We fully intend to continue Homeschool Thursdays next school year, so let us know if there are any areas of particular interest to your family and we’ll try to organize programs around those topics. We hope to see you this Thursday and, as always, free parking is available in the St. Eustace Church lot, just leave a note on your dashboard indicating you are at this library event.

Lake Placid Public Library Homeschool Program 5/26/22

From Lake Placid Library:

Please join us on Thursday, May 26th at 10 a.m. for a Bird’s Eye View with Nature Nate, Adirondack Mountain Club Naturalist. Nature Nate will discuss birding and answer our questions about the beautiful birds of the Adirondacks. If you’ve been keeping a birding journal or have a list of questions, please bring them to share. The presentation will be followed by hands-on activities, book exploration, and book check-outs. Although not necessary, please let us know if you’ll be attending to assist with materials/set-up needs. If the weather cooperates, we may spend some program time in our backyard.

As masks are now optional at the library, we ask families to keep any sick children home. We would be happy to put together take-away bags of supplies and books if you have to miss due to illness; just send us an email or give us a call. Thank you for your understanding. As always, free parking is available in the St. Eustace Church lot, just leave a note on your dashboard indicating you are at this library event.

Hope to see you then,

Bambi and Karen
