We are pleased to announce that this year’s annual North Country Homeschooling History Day will be held at the Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum! It will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 (exact times TBA, but it is generally a morning to afternoon event). As in past years, the children will have time to give their presentations in the morning, which will be followed by a brown bag lunch, tours introducing them to the history of mining and railroads in the North Country, and a scavenger hunt. We need a rough head count in order to work out the details. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have an interest in coming, and how many people will be in your group! We look forward to seeing you!
RSVP by May 6, 2025 to lilygorgas at gmail dot com with the number of kids and adults you plan to bring!
Hi all – some homeschoolers are signed up for this cool, parent-child stained glass class at LPCA, but it might be canceled due to low registration. They would love to get other homeschool families to join in! Anyone else want to sign up?
Our next Homeschool event is our Homeschool Art Show & Reception on Thursday, May 1st, 4-5:30 p.m. Artwork from students in grades K-12 may be submitted in any medium, but please note that wall art should be no larger than 20 x 20 and sculpture should be no larger than 10 x 10 and no heavier than 3 lbs. Works should be submitted on Tuesday, April 29 or Wednesday, April 30 during library hours.
Please spread the word and if you have any questions, contact us at librarian@lakeplacidlibrary.org or 518-523-3200. We look forward to celebrating the student masterpieces with you on May 1st!
Come join us as Dr. Saikat Chakraborty, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Paul Smith’s College, has offered to give homeschoolers an overview about photochemical reactions as they relate to both photosynthesis and photovoltaics. He will also share some of his own research into creating carbon-free solar fuels from water.
All are welcome! Homeschoolers should have a basic idea of what photosynthesis is and what it does, and what solar panels do, but no complex knowledge will be needed to appreciate the information presented.
To celebrate World Water Day (March 22, 2025) and in advance of the 20th World Lake Conference, AquaVox is offering a 90-minute free, online filmmaking workshop for youth (ages 14-25). Join us and/or share with those who may be interested.
