Newspaper Writing Contest
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Lake Placid News — based in Saranac Lake — are sponsoring a Biography/Personal Profile Writing Contest for students in grades 4 through 12.
The contest is open to students in the newspapers’ readership area — those who are homeschooled or who attend the following districts and schools: AuSable Valley Central, Keene Central, Lake Placid Central, Saranac Lake Central, Tupper Lake Central, North Country School, Northwood School and St. Bernard’s School.
The submission deadline is Friday, March 29. Winning entries will be selected by our judges in April, the contest will culminate in a celebration reading in May (date and venue TBA) and winning entries will be published in both newspapers.
Posted below are Contest Rules; a guide on how to write a Biography/Personal Profile; and information about our Next Generation Newsroom program, which was designed to create educational pathways for local students to become professional journalists.
We chose the Biography/Personal Profile for our spring 2024 writing contest because both newspapers routinely publish these types of stories that highlight people from our communities. The subject of these profiles must be a living person.
Please share this packet with your homeschooling community and contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you.
