ADK’s Homeschool in the Woods (Ages 5-12) Winter Program

The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) will host a winter homeschool series at Cascade Welcome Center. This series will take place on the second Monday of January, February, and March and is all about how animals, humans, and plants survive the winter. As long as we have good snow the last class will be a cross country ski day. Like our previous programs this series is for students ages 5-12.

Here is a link to the registration page. Health insurance is required to attend. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Gauging Interest in Ceramics Class at BluSeed Studios – your feedback wanted

Stephanie and Jazen are organizing a workshop for middle/high school level homeschoolers in ceramics at Bluseed Studios in Saranac Lake. Jazen will tailor the class to the number of kids who are interested. Once we know how many kids are likely to sign up, we can figure out a cost per student, and exactly how many weeks it would run.

The classes would be geared toward middle and high school students. We would start with a hand-building workshop (then, in the future we could do a wheel throwing series, too). The initial series of classes would run for 4-6 weeks.

If you think your middle/high school student might be interested please email or text Stephanie with the names and ages of your kids and the times of day that are best for them.

About the Program
The homeschool program will run on Tuesdays from Jan 9 – March 26, 2024, from 10am-2pm. Most Tuesdays, Sunita Halasz will lead informal group games for all abilities on skis in the field behind the building from around 11:00am-12:00pm. Last year we also had special days where we did music jams and horsedrawn sleigh rides. Stay tuned to this blog (or the NCH facebook group) for updates in case of inclement weather.

Families are welcome to come earlier and stay later. The VIC building is open from 9:00am-5:00pm, and indoor bathrooms are available to the public. Families are free to ski or snowshoe the trails at their own pace and use the building throughout the day. VIC trails are open dawn to dusk.

Homeschoolers are welcome to visit the displays inside the building, use the classroom, library reading room, and any educational tools and games.

2024 Titus Mountain Homeschool Downhill Ski Program

Here’s the information for this coming winter’s Homeschool Titus Mountain Ski Program!  There are five Fridays included in the program.  You may choose to buy a lesson, a lesson and lift tickets, or a lesson, lift tickets, and rental.  You may choose either skis or snowboard.  (If an individual misses a lesson, there is no make up session for that individual; if the whole group misses due to weather, however, a group make up session may be negotiated.)

All lessons begin at 10:00am, so participants should give themselves time prior to that to pick up their gear, check in, and gear up.  The dates for the program in 2024 are as follows:

1/5, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, and 2/2

The full package rate for an individual student is $255, which includes lift, lesson, and rentals.  If you have your own skis, it costs $170.  For an adult, the full package rate is $405, or $270 if you have your own equipment. Adults may pay on a week-to-week basis, for the group rate of $54/lift ticket and $30/rental (no pre-registration required, and no form listed here).  Additional price options are listed on the registration forms.  A single lesson may be requested, contingent upon whether an instructor is available, for $65.  (Patience will be needed for these individual rentals and lessons; the attendants will be busy with pre-registered customers first.)

I need all the forms (see below for separate youth and adult forms) and a check for the full amount made out to me by December 15. Email me for my mailing address: cynthiagorgas@gmail.com

Thanks!
Cynthia
