Homeschool History Day will be Friday, June 19, 2026 in Saranac Lake at the Hub space at 28 Broadway (run by Adirondack Voters for Change).
We hope to have a history tour and a fun activity for the students after their presentations. I’m waiting for confirmation from the group’s president about the exact time of day, but I’m optimistic that we can make the beloved Homeschool History Day happen this year!
Homeschool History Day has been enjoyed by our North Country community for decades. This is only my family’s second try at History Day, but from my understanding, this is how the presentations work: children of all ages may present a history topic (person, place, or thing), either alone or with a parent in a question-answer or interview style, in first person or third person.
Some examples: the student could introduce themself as a figure from history and talk about their life. Or they could talk about a period of history and its interesting inventions or happenings. Or they could talk about a “thing” – an invention, the history of an animal species, an event (one year a student was the Mount St Helens eruption) – whatever they’re interested in! Anything goes and it’s very fun and low-pressure.
Each presenter may choose to just speak, have a powerpoint, and/or pass out visual aids (photos or objects) during the presentation. One year, a student chose to play banjo! After each presentation, the audience may ask questions of the presenter.
